I took the out of state online class back in Feb… I emailed Dan who quickly replied. I emailed Lloyd privately with the email info Dam sent me… which seemed appropriate. Also, the Ref sheet he sent is attached. Dan was very responsive back in Feb. Maybe overworked with the recent weather related disasters..

Skywarn was active in Manhattan, KS while I was there. The spotters were coordinated through the local Emergency Operation Center (EOC) in conjunction with the local ARES Coordinator. Whenever conditions were good for a potential tornado, several spotters were dispatched to pre-selected strategic sites to “spot” tornadoes. It was very effective and provided real time information to the EOC who then used that information to provide warnings through the local alert system (sirens and radio / cell phone alerts).
In Manhattan, KS, whenever the tornado warning system was activated for your zone, you would immediately go to a tornado shelter because a tornado was confirmed on the ground. Anyone with an amateur radio receiver good listen to the message traffic between the EOC and the trained spotters at their assigned locations.
