While it is used widely in the Military and is even called by some “Military Time”, it is actually used Globally by hams everywhere as referenced to UTC (Universal Time Coordinates or Greenwich Mean Time or GMT. All the same. Looking at a clock face count from twelve around to 12 again saying 1,2,3,4,5, etc. When you get to the 12 again keep gpoing around and say 13,14,15,16,etc until you get to twelve again which will be 00. You correctly said that we are 5 hours ahead of GMT in out time zone in Texas.

Can’t stay out of it (the conversation of music and groups). Beach Boys, Jan & Dean, Hondels are almost pre-historic like Bach, Beethoven and those ‘fossils.’ Hi Hi Hi! What’s hard to believe is that while we think of those groups as being ‘30 years ago’ what is ACTUALLY 30 years ago are TV shows like Seinfeld, Friends, and the CSI franchise, and music groups like (I don’t know - I don’t have any reference to then for music groups).
As for time zones, I work with a group in several time zones and deal with customers from Guam to Puerto Rico, Alaska to Florida. So, while I’m not so smart on UTC (Netlogger is a good tool for translations, btw), I have to keep up on various time zones. Fun. Fun. Fun.

As for time zones, I hate when on line a company list an 800 phone number and hours but fail to let you know what time zone they are in. I think it would be great if we all just went ovet to GMT. That way you understand when to call someone in Guam and the other person on Maine. But know when their ‘normal business hours’ are.

Military called it ZULU all military operation are done in Zulu time. When I was in the military I had a watch that had two times on it. One was let to Zulu and the other was set for locks time
