Ukraine
Within a day of the conflict in Ukraine American Red Cross personnel were staging in Germany to deploy to neighboring countries in support of refugees and our Service to Armed forces mission.
Emily is a Ham. She stands to the immediate left of the First Lady of the United States on her visit during Mother’s Day to Ukraine and neighboring countries.
The Service to Armed forces mission cares for Military Families. The American Red Cross sent trained staff to Europe to support emergency communication needs of deployed U.S. military members.
Since that time there have been additional requests for specialized personnel and dollars to support refugees from the conflict inside and outside of Ukraine.

Uvalde TX
Shortly after the shooting we were requested by local emergency management to assist victim services at the family assistance center to help meet immediate needs. We are coordinating that with partner Children’s Disaster Services and local school, government, and non-government organizations.

Ongoing operations
Week in and week out we serve the needs of the most frequent disaster in Texas – Home fires. The week ending 5/22 we assisted 80 Texans meet the immediate needs from Home Fires in Central Texas alone.
May has also been a big month for fire prevention and free smoke alarm installs.

Hurricane Season Starts / Agatha
Well, just in time for the start of Hurricane Season we have Invest 91E (Now Agatha) in the Eastern pacific which some models say may be headed our way. A good reminder to keep our weather situation awareness active. And a great time to double check preparedness status. In case this reforms in the gulf.

I had to take a break from my Red Cross volunteer activities for some family business. So responses may be delayed. Ken Armstrong (Central and South Texas) and Eric Bauer (Texas Gulf Coast Region) are filling in for me. They are on the copy list.
