Prerequisites for attendance are:
Completion of IS-100.b, IS-200.b, IS-700.a, and IS-800.b prior to the workshop
An active FCC amateur radio license (Novice, Technician, General, Advanced and Extra)
Past experience in auxiliary communications
An Affiliation with a Public Safety Agency
A desire to work with COMLs in a NIMS/ICS environment

ah, weird question, because I’m really new here – I have a few of these items done already (FEMA certs, active license, previous AUXCOMM experience - Comms Officer in Civil Air Patrol, but VERY briefly). I’m not part of a public safety agency, but I do have a little (not a lot) time to do volunteer work with my mobile unit in my jeep. Is there some other way I can help? Are my FEMA certs of any value (man I had to drink SO. MUCH. COFFEE to muscle my way through those classes)?

To answer your question, the AUXCOMM course is for seasoned, experienced, ARES members that want to aspire to become a group or team leader.
To find out if your FEMA certs are of any ARES value you should talk to your local ARES Emergency Coordinator. Here is a link to a map that lets you select the county you live in and it displays your Section EC, District EC and County EC. Plus it gives you an email link to your EC, just fill out the form.
