Travis County ARES is providing communications support to this year’s Decker Challenge Half-Marathon, taking over from Jim Kinter K5KTF who’s successfully lead those efforts for years.
The event is Sunday, December 7, 2025, 0700-1200, at the Travis County Expo Center in northeast Austin.
We’re standing up a Comms Unit/Event Communications Trailer and need operators to monitor, report, and pass traffic on various issues of a run with 400+ participants. Most hams will operate from fixed locations along the course route. Portable set-up is self-contained and powered by vehicle or other battery.
For those operators pursuing their state AUXC credential, this real-world event qualifies as one of the several evaluations you’ll need. A credentialed AUXC evaluator will sign-off on PTBs.
