TX Coast Weather / Generator Safety ...

A couple of things -

#1) Gulf Coast - Possible Flooding Weather

We may have some interesting weather on the TX Gulf Coast starting Sunday. So please keep a weather eye out and stay in touch with your local weather office. Flooding would be the main threat. Watch Richard KE5MIM brief video below for details. Also attaching the TX SOC Tropical Weather briefing for Fri. 9/10 noon.

#2) Generator Safety

I know I am preaching to the believers, but I was alarmed at some information that I have been receiving on what I call the “disaster after the disaster”. Specifically the share of deaths and injuries that result from Improper Generator use and Carbon Monoxide poisoning.

  • After Hurricane Ida by 9/6 there were 4 deaths and 141 Emergency Room visits for Carbon Monoxide poisoning in Louisiana!
  • In 2020 more people died in Louisiana from improper generator use than in all 5 named storms!

I know I have seen some of our compatriots fueling a hot generator, and other potentially dangerous situations. So this is just a reminder to use alternate power sources carefully.

Kevin,

Thanks for the update, in all my years, I thought I’d never hear much about weather but from ships at sea, look at barometric pressures, find out about wind direction. I visited the NWS office many times in the past, got to know John Metz quite well, along with many other guys, gals there. Never thought I’d get so much info over email/internet - it didn’t exit then.

Just wondering why so many illnesses, fatalities from gas generators? Surely there are printed warnings about them.??

Sorry to learn of the loss of Suzane Colley, the victims of the Islamic terrorists are too many!!
