Operators needed to activate Special Event Station W5C / H this summer!

This event runs from June 11 - July 19, 2026

Amateur radio operators across16 US, Canada and Mexico Host Cities are activating special callsigns (W1C, W2C, W4C, K4C, W5C /D, W5C /H, W6C, W6S, W7C, K0C, WM3PEN, VC3F, VB7F, 4A1CMX, 4A1GDL, 4A1MTY) to celebrate this summer’s 2026 FIFA World Cup.

We have two Host Cities, here in Texas: Houston with matches at NRG & Dallas with matches at Jerry World.

The Houston region will use callsign W5C with a stroke H to designate Houston. The Dallas region will use W5C/ D

At this time, there are no onsite activations planned for either stadium; however, we are encouraging Clubs and groups to consider having activations near the venues or other suitable locations to generate publicity for ham radio, much like Field Day. We do expect a lot of operators to operate from their home stations.

Once approved and issued their unique pass codes to schedule their desired operating date/time/band/& mode, Volunteer Operators may activate from home, club, portable, mobile, etc., within the privileges of their license class.

Individual pass codes & self-scheduling are required to ensure that we have no more than one op per mode per band at any given time, and to keep track of log submittals so hunter stations can verify their QSOs. Activators will submit their log ADIF through the same website where they select their operating times. Any logging software that can generate an ADIF will work.

So, please join us and operate all bands, all modes. Let’s make this a fun event! Hunters will collect unique Host City QSL cards and be eligible for certificates of accomplishment for working multiple Cities.

Do they have to operate from the Dallas Stadium OR can they operate from their QTH or mobile?

Ron, and FYI to Jeff…
The website is not clear… Somebody should update it to let folks know they can do it from home or at a park… Maybe do it as a club event and have a dozen operators and maybe on different bands like Field Day…

Or spell it out clearly in your email…

I’d hate for folks to drive to a stadium, pay for parking, and not find a station there to operate…

If you get the info to Jeff, he sends out a mass email newsletter that gets to thousands of hams…

Dallas - thanks for your feedback!

Volunteers to activate do get a lot more information once they are in our system, but we will definitely add those points to our Home page, since we are now using it as our primary information site during the recruiting process and not just as promotion to hunter stations for the event itself.

i sent a email to lee but have not heard back as of yet i might have plans for tomorrow evening so don’t know if ill be on the simplex net but usually garry, k5wxy relays me in from his qth in Waxachacie i got a 13 el beam at 30 ft pointed due north with 50 watts

did you know years ago there was a sports broadcaster from houston by the same name as yours

I know about the other RF very well; I grew up in Port Neches & lived there 50 years until moving to Anahuac, and then away from the coast when I retired.
