“&” Means Winlink only checkin. “!” means both Voice and Winlink.

VHF relay? How does that work since we only see an HF Frequency for check in.
If this is active for Technician class hams to participate it needs to be passed on to them.

Good signal last night, Dave…excellent handling..to think we’ve known each other since our teens…the days of TX Slow Speed Novice Net, RN5, TexCW, etc…have you talked with Chip, WB5GZG anytime lately? Last I heard he was still at NASA.

Hope you are doing well..I had to remind KE5O about you and I making some PNG HS football playoff games in the Dome way back when I was working at KLVI :laughing: and of course we collaborating on the TS140/680 mods. Still running my 680 too

Sometimes, we have in some of the districts an operator who takes checkins on a local VHF net and relays into the HF network.

I checked Winlink via HF and FM VHF both but no designation as shown on the report.

I never knew that was an option. We have a number of ARES members locally that only have a Tech license.
So I would be allowed to check them in via HF each week?

Relaying information from a VHF net to the HF net was done here in Livingston during Hurricane Beryl.
So practicing that function should be allowed as the Techs should already be on the ARES list of operators that have also never checked in on the HF net.
Please advise so the group knows what is allowed.

The listed call signs are to be what the net control hears, or is relayed to them because the net control cannot hear or understand the person testing their equipment and skill by trying to make contact.
If we stretch the implied purpose to relays from another net, we open the gate to anything goes.

This net does not include what the NetLogger reads from the roster of those that are logged into that application. I logged into Netlogger twice last Monday from 2 different stations.
I do not expect to be listed by net control unless I am heard or relayed from someone that can hear me on the chosen HF band.

Similarly, a WinLink message could be sent in for the same net relaying in the same folks from the local net.
Do you expect the Winlink report to include those call signs that were part of that message? I do not. Only the stations sending to and received by the target address are included.

Story time:
Back in the day, we had a D14 meeting every 3rd Monday of the month involving around 20 participants. At the end of the meeting, maybe 10 of those folks would troop up to the radio room and check in to the HF net. Only the 10 that participated in the HF net were listed on the net report. Not the 20 that attended the meeting and might say “relay me in, I’m going home”. Occasionally a tech would be part of the 10 causing an occasional comment by someone “hey, he/she is only a tech”.

Jeff,
That was my understanding also…Net Control only recognizes what they hear.
Therefore, the check in form should delete the note for" VHF/HF relay" since that is what started this discussion in the first place. And only recognize the call sign they hear and not allow others to be checked in.
