An active FCC amateur radio license (Novice, Technician, General, Advanced and Extra)

An Affiliation with a Public Safety Agency
A desire to work with COMLs in a NIMS/ICS environment

Offering Overview:

This class is designed for auxiliary communicators and groups who volunteer to provide backup radio communications support to public safety agencies. Typically, this includes amateur radio and Radio Emergency Associated Communications Team (REACT) communicators and other types of volunteer communicators.

Volunteer communications operators/groups, using amateur radio, have been providing backup communications to public safety for nearly 100 years. Event planners, public safety officials, and emergency managers at all levels of government utilize their services. Often, amateur radio services have been used when other forms of communications have failed or have been disrupted. Today, nearly all of the states/territories have incorporated some level of participation by amateur radio auxiliary communication operators into their TICPs and SCIPs.

This course focuses on auxiliary communications interoperability, the relationship between the COML and the volunteer, emergency operations center (EOC) etiquette, on-the-air etiquette, Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rules and regulations, auxiliary communications training and planning, and emergency communications deployment. It is intended to supplement and standardize an operator’s experience and knowledge of emergency amateur radio communications in a public safety context.

Is it possible that 100.b has been replaced by 100.c?

I looked here:

which had this title:

Looking at the preparing Texas post right now just in case it changed over night.

Prerequisites for attendance are:

Completion of IS-100.b, IS-200.b, IS-700.a, and IS-800.b prior to the workshop

This doesn’t mean that there is not a later version. Those are the minimum requirements.

FYI….

If you took the perquisite FEMA classes several years ago, you will be required to retake the class using the most recent version before attending the class.

Figured so. The truth is I need to start over anyway. I took a few FEMA courses and got busy with other things and dropped it. So, nothing I have is current.

There is no penalty for early completion.

FEMA courses are frequently being updated and websites don’t always keep up with the most frequent changes.

Always have the most current version of any FRMA course completed for any DHS course you plan to take.

A few housekeeping items for STX ARES.

  1. Everyone, please goto STX Depot and update your credentials, contact info, etc and if there is a spot to note your new Auxcomm certification, please be sure to do so.

STX Depot is the main – primary depository of STX ARES contact and credential information.

  1. Please notify Jeff, KE5FGA and myself of your attendance to the Auxcomm class.

  2. Please notify your EC, DEC of your attendance to the Auxcomm class for their files

Auxcomm is the Communications Leader (COML) class tailored to the amateur radio emcomm community to teach them the paperwork and process of assisting the COML in events.

I like to call it COML Lite.

It is not a technical class. That is the COMT class or obtaining the West Gulf Division training certifications.

Auxcomm is a credentialing, instructional program.

It is NOT a “service” such as ARES or RACES.

Some groups are trying to use Auxcomm as more of a ARES/RACES service model of which it is not designed for that.

In STX Section we are committed to supporting ARES and RACES as our ecomm programs working in tandem for serving our customers.
